Abstract: Few studies have examined how innovation capabilities affect export performance in the context of emerging economies, despite the fact that they are significant drivers of export performance. The relationship between innovation capabilities and export performance is evaluated in this paper in terms of the moderating effects of institutional government support as well as firms’ proactive and passive internationalization behaviors. 250 small and medium-sized businesses Mozambique made up the sample used for the analysis (SMEs). The findings show that although innovation potential influences export performance favorabl The moderating effects of institutional government support and firms’ proactive and preventative internationalization behaviors on SMEs in Mozambique were not found to be statistically significant.
