Title: A Service Co-Production Perspective on Understanding Innovation in Education
Abstract: While the focus of innovation in the education sector has largely been on pedagogical, technological, or regulatory aspects, service innovation also refers to other aspects that involve interpersonal and community co-production. This essay offers a theoretical framework for comprehending innovation in education from a service economic standpoint. By fusing the two disparate research fields of service innovation and education innovation, this is accomplished. The findings show that I considering education as a service characteristics, such as interactive co-production, will help us better understand how innovations are developed and implemented; (ii) when a public service logic is used, innovation modes in education can be aligned with service innovation modes; (iii) the tension between customization and standardization that exists in service innovation is replicated in the education sector; and (iv) Service-friendly principles like freedom, autonomy, and subsidiarity should serve as a guide for managerial and policy implications.
