Title: Galectin-1’s immunosuppressive functions in the tumor microenvironment
Abstract: Immune surveillance evasion is a recognized indicator of tumor progression. One of the key mechanisms of tumor immune escape is the production of immune suppressive mediators by tumor cells. Numerous cancers express Galectin-1 (Gal-1), a crucial immunosuppressive molecule. The immune evasion of tumors is aided by the ability of tumor-secreted Gal-1 to bind to glycosylated receptors on immune cells and cause the suppression of immune cell function in the tumor microenvironment. This review’s objective is to provide a concise summary of the most recent research on Gal-1’s expression and role in the microenvironment of human tumors, as well as on Gal-1-targeting drugs.
