Title: Phototheranostics Using Particles Based on Erythrocytes
Abstract: Red blood cells (RBCs) are being used more and more in the creation of delivery systems for therapeutic and imaging uses of light. These designs can benefit from the RBC’s immune evasion capabilities, and the addition of an optical cargo makes it possible for the particles to be activated by light for a variety of exciting applications. Here, we go over a few of the typical fabrication techniques used to create these constructs. Additionally, we give an overview of some recent light-based applications that have the potential to be applied in clinical settings and discuss potential future developments in this fascinating area.
