Description
Title: Proteins with Bone Morphogenetics and Diabetic Retinopathy
Abstract: BMPs, or bone morphogenetic proteins, are crucial for bone growth and repair. Recent studies have emphasized their crucial function in the healthy development of many organs and the maintenance of vascular homeostasis in both health and disease. The emergence of diabetes mellitus cardiovascular complications has been associated with increased levels of BMPs. Their specific contribution to the pathogenesis of microvascular dysfunction linked to diabetic retinopathy (DR) is still not fully understood. BMP signaling may be involved in retinal inflammation, hyperpermeability, and pathological neovascularization in DR and age-related macular degeneration, according to accumulating evidence from our studies and those of others (AMD). Thus, it is suggested that a potential therapeutic approach to prevent the emergence of microvascular dysfunction in retinal diseases, particularly in DR, is to target BMP signaling in diabetes. This review article’s objective is to discuss the biological roles played by BMPs, their underlying mechanisms, and their potential contribution to the pathogenesis of DR in particular.
