Title: A Mini Review of Metabolomic Studies for Metabolic Changes Caused by Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Abstract: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are FDA-approved antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic medications to reduce pain, but in some people, they are also linked to cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal injury. Understanding the relationship between the host and medications, such as NSAID administration, may be possible through metabolomics. Many researchers have used this field to comprehend the severe side effects of NSAIDs. We highlighted (4) a pathway analysis of the data presented in the published literature, (5) a review of metabolomics studies in front of NSAIDs in different biofluids and tissues, (6) the potential of metabolomics in understanding the pathogenesis of adverse events due to NSAID administration, (7) the choice of metabolomics techniques, bio sample handling, and (8) a bioreview of metabolomics studies in front of NSAIDs. According to our analysis, NSAIDs like ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen, aspirin, and celecoxib alter the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), “glycine serine and threonine metabolism,” “alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism,” and “fatty acid metabolism.” In conclusion, metabolomics enables the use of biological samples to pinpoint important pathways involved in disease progression, which in turn helps us understand the pathogenesis of the disease. Additional research into the related pathways mentioned above may reveal potential drug targets for reducing side effects.
