Description
Title: Natural Bioprinting: The Biologics of Bioinks
Abstract: Depending on the mechanical and biochemical requirements of the finished construct as well as the type of printer being used for fabrication, the creation of suitable bioinks is a challenging task. Micro-extrusion and digital light projection printers are the two most popular tissue printers. Here, we give a brief overview of the qualities a bioink must have in order to work with each of these printing techniques. A printed construct’s physical printing, however, only lasts for a brief period of time before it needs to be supported and enabled to undergo cellular development. In order to achieve this, we give a general overview of a few biological molecules that are currently employed as bioinks. The benefits of each molecule for particular tissues or cells are discussed, as well as any potential drawbacks, and examples of how they are currently being used in the field. It should be noted that composite bioinks are increasingly being used by active researchers. The importance of combining the advantages of various materials is emphasized as a crucial step in the development of bioink.
