Title: Comparisons of Ex Vivo, In Situ, and Ultrasound Methods for Imaging of Aortic Aneurysms and Dissections in Mice
Abstract: Life-threatening conditions such as aortic aneurysms and dissections carry a significant risk of fatal bleeding and organ hypoperfusion. Using mouse models, numerous studies have looked into the molecular causes of these illnesses. Ex vivo, in situ, and ultrasound imaging are the main methods used in mice to assess aortic diameters, a parameter frequently used to gauge the severity of aortic aneurysms. However, due to the pathological characteristics of aortic aneurysms, precise measurements of aortic dimensions by these imaging approaches may be difficult. There isn’t currently a standardized method for evaluating mouse aortic dissections. To accurately assess aortic dilatations, it’s critical to comprehend the traits of each approach. In this review, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the imaging techniques used for aortic visualization in recent mouse studies. Additionally, we offer recommendations to make it easier to see mouse aortas.
